Enslaved Persons Named: Little Abram, William, Little Bob, Jim

On March 3, 1829, Liberty County Sheriff S.W. Blount sold to Jonathan Gaulden for $780 “the following negro slaves; to wit, Little Abram, a boy about ten years of age, William a boy about eight years of age; Little Bob, about seven years of age; and Jim, a boy about five years of age.” Jonathan Gaulden had sued Simon A. Fraser, whose property these children were, and following a judgment against Fraser, Sheriff Blount had seized Little Abram, William, Little Bob, and Jim and put them up for auction at the Liberty County courthouse door, where Jonathan Gaulden was the highest bidder. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 30, 1829. 

On March 27, 1829, Jonathan Gaulden used as collateral on a promissory note for $461.70 to Uriah Wilcox, also of Liberty County, “the four following male slaves, viz. Burke Abram, about ten years of age; William, about eight years of age; Bob, about seven years of age; & Jim, about five years of age; likewise, a female slave named Eliza, about four years of age, together with her future issue & increase.” Witnessed by D.R. Perry. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 2, 1829. [NOTE: Marked as satisfied as of January 12, 1837, per Uriah Wilcox. Satisfaction recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 16, 1837.]
