On February 18, 1828, John Girardeau, planter Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $112.33 to Uriah Wilcox, trader of Liberty County, “a male slave named July; also a certain tract of land situate in said County, on which the said John now resides, containing two hundred acres, more or less, bounded on the East by lands of Jno. [John] S. Quarterman & Wm. [William] Spencer, on the South by lands of Wm. [William] P. Girardeau, on the West by lands of Jno. [John] Dunwody & Andrew Maybank, & on the North by lands formerly belonging to David G. Holms, deceased.” Witnessed by Wm. [William] L. Patrick, Rodney Pease. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 20, 1828.
