On February 7, 1828, the Bank of Darien, represented by James Troup, President, and E.S. Rees, Cashier, sold to Nathaniel Varnedoe, of Liberty County, for $1500 “the following named negroes viz. Billy McIntosh, George, Hannah, Danl [alt: Daniel], Aberdeen, and Elsey, being in all six.” The Bank of Darien had purchased these individuals at a Liberty County Courthouse Sheriff’s Sale at Riceborough on March 6, 1827, after receiving a judgment against James Holmes in the amount of $11400 for nonpayment of debt.
