Enslaved Persons Named: Isaac, Celia, Lavinia, Dinah
On July 1, 1828, Liberty County Sheriff Benjamin Mell sold to Paul H. Wilkins for $426 “four certain negroes, named Isaac, Celia, Lavinia, and Dinah.” Mell had seized them from the estate of Thomas F. Bacon, after a judgment was obtained against the estate by the Bank of Darien. They were sold at auction at the Liberty County courthouse on July 1st, and Wilkins was the highest bidder. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on July 10, 1828.
