Enslaved Persons Named: Toney

On April 1, 1824, Samuel Stevens, Liberty County, sold to Furman R. Whitwell, same county, for $300 “a negro boy called Toney…” Stevens added, “And I have put the said Furman R. Whitwell in full possession by delivering the above named Toney unto the said Furman R. Whitwell at the delivery of these presents.” Witnessed by B.A. Busby. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 24, 1825. [NOTE: Written below this deed was “see probate p. 123” but it was just a reference to Bartholomew A. Busby’s having probated his being a witness to the deed.]
