Enslaved Persons Named: Venus, Phillis, Nanny, Kate, Phebe, Israel, Peggy

On July 30, 1821, Samuel Stevens, planter of Liberty County, gifted to his wife Ann Stevens, “the following negro slaves, together with the issue of the female slaves, to wit, Venus, Phillis, Nanny, Kate, Phebe, and Israel (the five last mentioned negroes being the children of the said Venus) and also Peggy, a child of the said Phillis, and also all the bedding, cattle, kitchen and household furniture that I obtained by my intermarriage with my said wife, together with the increase of the said cattle.” Ownership was turned over William Norman Way, her trustee. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on November 7, 1823.
