Estate Settlement (McIver/Spencer)

Enslaved Persons Named: Tom

On December 29, 1836, Samuel Spencer acknowledged receipt from Wm. [William] Robarts, administrator of the estate of Alexander McIver, “the following property, viz. Plantation called Myrtle Grove one other Plantation known as Bradwells, Forty five Negroes Old & Young two mules three oxen ox cart etc one shot gun one medicine chest one maghogany table one stand with drawers one old slab, two old bedsteads, (four old tables half round) one box contg old books 14 yds negro cloth, one demijohn, one pr scales & weights, one pr [word] yards one whipsaw two pr wedges, one work basin two pewter tumblers one pr old wool cards six stacks of fodder over & above the wants of the plantation for the ensuing year, also the corn & pease, which Mr. Dean the manager considers sufficient for the wants of the plantation Also one other negro man Tom, the property of minor Alex Munro McIver (also two corn mills Est of McIvers one corn [word] also five foot gins one 1/16 of the fodder Monro McIver is entitled to.” Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 24, 1838.

 

[NOTE: In the 1833 inventory of Alexander McIver’s estate, William Robarts was listed as the estate administrator. In the 1837 inventory, Samuel Spencer, who was also an heir, was listed as the administrator. The above deed was probably to allow Samuel Spencer to take charge of the estate for future divisions.]
