On April 11, 1837, Edwin H. Bacon, of Walthourville in Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $6800 to Raymond Harris of Savannah “the following negro slaves with all the future issue and increase of the females, namely, Harry, Nancy, Kate, Sam, Rosanna, Charlotte, Jane, Bob, Frank, Diana, Dick, Big Cracker, Israel, Abram, Little Cracker, Cuff [alt: Cuffee], George, Little Tenah, Newton, Big Tenah, Linda, Rachell, Big Nanny, Little Harry, Jackson, Toby, Caesar, Lizett, Old Hannah, Cooper Harry, being thirty in number.” He also used as collateral a 300-acre tract of land in Liberty County bounded west by the estate of Samuel Lewis, north by Charlton Hines, south by William J. Way and easty by the estate of Thomas Bacon, “known by the name of the Oak Land Tract or plantation.” Also used as collateral was a note executed by James S. Bulloch, administrator of the estate of John Elliott, to Messrs Andrew Low & Co, which obligated Andrew Low & Co to pay to E.H. Bacon $3000. The deed stated that the note for $6800 was “payable by John F. Tucker to Messrs Clark & Pelot, and that the note was endorsed by Clark & Pelot and also “by one Wm. H. Smith”. Witnessed by E. Baker and Wm. [William] J .Way, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 11, 1837. [NOTE: Satisfaction acknowledged by Raymond Harris as of February 5, 1838. Satisfaction recorded on March 15, 1838.]
