Used as Collateral (Bradewell/Law)

Enslaved Persons Named: Jane, Ellick, Mary

On March 26, 1836, James S. Bradwell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $500 “three certain negro slaves to wit, Jane and her two children Ellick & Mary.” Bradwell had originally written the note to George Anderson & Son of Savannah, with Nathaniel Law acting as security. Law having died, Bradwell put Jane and her children up as collateral to Samuel S. Law and John B. Barnard, administrators of Nathaniel Law’s estate, to ensure payment of the debt.
