State of Georgia, Chatham County } City of Savannah

I do hereby certify that the [word] Negro man named Rodney, aged about twenty nine years, is a free negro, and to my knowledge has been so, for many years past. He is reported to be an Honest, Industrious & Sober man and as such I recommend him, he is authorized to work in the citty or country, and to go where he pleases, as he is free. This Tickett and recommendation to avail him, untill the first day of July next.

Captain Joseph Jones of Liberty County is at this time the guardian of Rodney, the negro man above named, and at whose request the above has been recorded & also this note has been made from under my hand.
