On January 15, 1834, Smith S. Hart, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note to Ralph King and William King, partners doing business under the name of R. & W. King of Savannah, Chatham County, “the following fourteen negro slaves, to wit, Frank, John, Friday, Rinah, Sandy, Edmund, Hagar, Mary, Paul, Bonaparte, Smart, Andrew, Israel and Grace…” and also a 324-acre tract of land in Liberty County, which was the northwestern part of a tract formerly owned by D. Sullivan, “and which on a division between Jonathan Bacon and William Hughes has been allowed to said Jonathan Bacon as his part or share, bounded on the north and northwest by lands of Lewis LeConte, west by lands formerly the property of John B. Girardeau, now belonging to J. McCullough, and south by vacant lands.” Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 20, 1834. [NOTE: Written on this deed: “Bank State of Georgia, Savannah 23 Jany 1835. This is to certify that the Bank of the State of Georgia has relinquished all lien or claim to a tract of 324 acres of land in Liberty County mortgaged by Smith S. Hart of said County on the fifteenth of January 1834 to R & W King & by them transferred to the said Bank. The said mortgage being recorded in Book K pages 108 & 109 Jany 1834 in Liberty County Clerk’s Office Superior Court. This clerk is hereby authorized to make an entry in the face of the record to the above effect. A Porter, Cashier. Recorded 24th Jany 1835, Thos J. Shepard Clk.” Also written on the deed was “Cancelled 31 March 1836, A. Porter. Cashier. R & W King. Recorded this 18th April 1836. Thos J. Shepard Clk”.]
