Marriage Contract (Deverger/Broughton)

Enslaved Persons Named: Charles, Mary, Snow

On April 18, 1833, John Deverger, McIntosh County, and Margaret M. Broughton, spinster and daughter of Daniel S. Broughton of Liberty County, entered into a marriage contract with James L.V. Corker, planter of Liberty County as her trustee.”And the said John Deverger being possessed in his own right of three certain negro slaves, it is thought advisable to settle the same upon a trustee for the support and maintenance of the said Margaret M…” The enslaved people were named as Charles, Mary, and Snow. Witnessed by John Ashmore, John Harris Jr. Margaret Broughton signed by mark. John Ashmore probated the signatures on April 29, 1833, and the deed was recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 2, 1833.
