On June 1, 1842, Milton E. Bacon, of Clinton, Jones County, Georgia, used as collateral on promissory notes that E.H. Bacon had endorsed for $2400 to the South Western Rail Road Bank, of Charleston, South Carolina, “the following negro slaves to wit: Sandy (driver) Peggy (Cook) Ben, Charlotte, Lucy, Toby, Moses, Will, Bella, Caesar Betty Cilla [alt: Scylla] Tira [alt: Tyrah] Betty and Tom her child, Frank (carpenter) Harriet and Peter her child and Eliza together with the future increase of the female slaves…” Witnessed by Charles Hutchings, J.I.C. Recorded on August 8, 1842, by E. Way, Clerk.
