Enslaved Persons Named: Pompey, Prissy, Tom, James, Tenah, Sam, Jack, Leah, Prince, Rachel

On July 5, 1842, Enoch Daniel, Sheriff of Liberty County, sold to Ann C. Hart, for $49 “the following Negro Slaves to wit: Pompey Prissy Tom James Tenah Sam Jack Leah Prince Rachel & Rachel’s child which said property was sold subject to a mortgage deed interposed by the Executors of the Est. of John Lambert, also a mortgage deed interposed by Joseph W. Robarts…” Daniel had seized them pursuant to a writ of Fieri Facias from the Liberty County Superior Court against George W. Dunham and the Bank of Charleston South Carolina and sold them to the highest bidder, Ann C. Hart. Using the same method, Daniel also seized a property belonging to George W. Dunham called “CrackTick,” 248 acres, bounded north by lands of A. Winn, west by lands of Wm. [William] P. McConnell, south and east by Salter’s Creek, and sold it to Ann C. Hart for $9 as the highest bidder. This land was also mortgaged by the Bank of Charleston. Witnessed by John E. Mann, S.A. Fraser, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on August 9, 1842, by E. Way, Clerk.
