Enslaved Persons Named: Lusy [alt: Lucy or Susy]

On June 2, 1842, Enoch Daniel, Sheriff of Liberty County, sold “a certain negro Lusy [alt: Lucy or Susy],” who had been seized from the estate of Matthew Bennet as part of foreclosure on a mortgage Oliver Stevens, administrator of the estate of U. Wilcox, had against the Bennet estate. She was advertised for sale in the “public gazette” and then put up for sale at the door of the Hinesville Court House on the first Tuesday of June. William Spencer was the highest bidder, and Daniel sold her to him for $225. Witnessed by S.S. Moody. Recorded on June 10, 1842, by E. Way, Clerk.
