On February 5, 1840, David A. Miller used as collateral on a promissory note to Smith S. Hart for $840 “one female Slave named Harriet, and her two children George and Tenah, being the said Harriet’s children together with the future issue and increase of the said female…” in addition to 550 acres of land in Liberty County formerly owned by Wm. [William] Hughes and divided between him and Jonathan Bacon, and lately owned by O.W. Hart, known as a part of the tract called Sullivan’s, and bounded north by land of Jonathan Bacon and the estate of Lewis LeConte, east by land of the estate of Lewis Leconte, south by land of the estate of Lewis LeConte and land unknown and west by land of S.S. Hart.” Witnessed by Wm. [William] J. Way, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on March 14, 1842, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was: “Satisfaction made this day of our Lord 9th March 1843. S.S. Hart. Recorded this 12 June 1843. E. Way, Clerk.”]
