On November 18, 1840, Joseph Jones, Liberty County, gifted to his “beloved wife” Elizabeth S.L. Jones “a certain negro girl named Lila about eight years of age for her own use and profit in trust to my son Charles B. Jones.” Witnessed by Josiah ? Stevens, E.H. Bacon, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on December 7, 1840, by E. Way, Clerk.
