On May 27, 1840, in Chatham County, Samuel Spencer, of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1500 to Noble A. Harden “the following named Slaves, with the issue of the females (viz) Will Tyra Priscilla & Jane…” Witnessed by Joseph Law, W.B. Fleming, Not. Pub. Recorded in Liberty County on June 6, 1840, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Georgia, Chatham County: Satisfaction is hereby acknowledged of the within mortgage the principal & interest having been paid. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this twenty seventh day of February eighteen hundred & forty one. [Signed] Noble A. Harden. Sealed & acknowledged in presence of John H. Hull. Recorded this 7th July 1841. E. Way, Clerk.”]
