Comments: This set of documents, all listed together, starts with an appraisal of the enslaved people belonging to the estate of William Osgood, dated January 1, 1835. It, however, was accompanied by a sworn statement, dated January 6, 1834, from William P. McConnell stating that he was a witness to the appraisal.

Following this was a document dated January 1, 183? [the last number had been crossed out and written over, making it illegible] stating that “we John McPherson Berien & Richard R. Cuyler, copartners under the name of Barien & Cuyler, William Hughes, Jesse Ham, Allen Inman, Willian N. Way and Susan A. Bacon and Paul Fulton, owners of the negro slaves mentioned in the annexed schedule, have agreed to divide the same and with that view, do by these presents constitute Geo. W. Walthour William Willson B.A. Busby Thomas Baker & David Anderson Esquires of the County of Liberty Commissioners to perform the acts following…” They agreed to 1) appraise the “said negro slaves”; 2) to designate ¼ of them for Berrien & Cuyler “to be held by them as their share & property”; 3) to divide the remaining ¾ into five shares and divide them among William Hughes, Allen Inman, Jesse Ham, and Paul Fulton; and 4) divide the remainder in three equal parts and divide them among William Hughes, William N. Way, and Susan A. Bacon.

The annexed schedule listed the enslaved people by families, as follows:

Long Rose, Dinah, Betsey

Milly Rose, Mariah, Harry, Flora, Minda, Little Rose, Hannah, Eliza
