Enslaved Persons Named: William

On March 18, 1840, James S. Bradwell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $500 to G.W. Anderson & Son [of Savannah] “a certain male Slave named William, aged about twenty five years…” Jonathan Gaulden, of Lowndes County, had endorsed the promissory note so he was to receive William if James S. Bradwell did not pay off the note. Witnessed by John Arthur, Wm. [William] B. Gaulden, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on April 11, 1840, by E. Way, Clerk.
