[NOTE: The documents below are likely actually a sale to B.B. King of the named enslaved people from the John Lambert estate on credit. The John Lambert estate received permission from the state legislature to sell off the estate, and many sales were made on February 1, 1840.]

On February 1, 1840, B.B. King and Wm. [William] J. King used as collateral on a promissory note of $6789 to the executors of John Lambert’s estate (Thomas Mallard, John Dunwody, Wm. Q. Baker, Ezra Stacy and William Jones) “the following named Slaves to wit: with the issue of the females to wit Venus Tony Will Sam Sampson Bristol Tony Scipio John Nanny Jacky Eve Samuel Henry Andrew Ellic [alt: Ellick] Harry Nancy Isaac Georgianna[*] Ellen Lucy Charlotte Nancy Sarah and Clarrissa [alt: Clarissa]. Witnessed by Raymond Cay, S. Spencer, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on March 23, 1840, by E. Way, Clerk.

[* In this document, this name looked like it started with an “L.” A later document with exactly the same names showed that it was Georgianna.]

On April 9, 1842, this deed record was re-recorded, naming the enslaved people as: “the following named Slaves with the issue of the females to wit: Venus Tony Will Sam Sampson Bristol Tony Scipio John Nanny Jacky Eve Samuel Henry Andrew Ellia Hary [alt: Harry] Nancy Isaac Georgianna Ellen Lucy Charlotte Nancy Sarah and Clarissa…” The purpose appeared to be to note that the debt has been satisfied. Witnessed by E.J. Delegal, Thos. [Thomas] W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on May 27, 1842, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was: “Satisfied in full W. Jones acting Exor Est. Lambert. Recorded 26 June 1845. J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.”]
