On June 22, 1839, Dr. Samuel Way, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $732.33 to William Jones, also of Liberty County, “the following negro slaves viz, Patty Barney Dorcas and Harry.” Witnessed by Edward Quarterman, E.Q. Andrews, J.P. Recorded on July 12, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied March 9th 1841 Wm. [William] Jones. Recorded this 4th day of May 1841. E. Way, Clerk.”]
