On June 20, 1839, Samuel Spencer, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note for $2769.09 to R & W King, a firm operated by Ralph King & William King of Savannah, “the ten following negro slaves (viz) Gibb, Rachel, Tyrah, Priscilla, Lawrence, Jacob, Will, Tom, Sam & Marlborough…” Witnessed by Wm. T. Williams, William Rogers, both of Chatham County, before Wm. Wylly, J.P. Recorded [in Liberty County] on July 12, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Savannah 22nd May 1841. Received satisfaction in full of the within mortgage. Recorded this 7th July 1841. E. Way, Clerk.”]
