Enslaved Persons Named: Nelly, Rose

On January 1, 1839, T.W. Quarterman, Liberty County, sold to Thos. [Thomas] Quarterman, also of Liberty County, for $2000 “the two following negroes, to wit, Nelly and Rose,” in addition to “four animals of the horse kind, also seventy five head of cattle & oxen, also one hundred head of hogs, also twenty five head of sheep, also one ox cart and jersey waggon, also a right in the Church at Walthourville formerly owned by J.S. Bullock [alt: Bulloch].” The deed stated that all of the above-named property was in the possession of T.W. Quarterman and that he avowed it all to be “his by right and proper titles.” Witnessed by Jas. [James] S. McCollough, E. Way, Clerk. Recorded on March 28, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk S.C.L.C.
