On February 2, 1839, John Stevens, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $3700 to Ralph King & William King, under the firm name of R & W King, “twelve slaves…named John, Tom, Billy, Sandy, Sue Eve Peggy Tira Tenah Phillis Nanny and Betty.” Witnessed by S.L.W. Harris, Notary Public of Chatham County. Recorded on March 22, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk [of Liberty County Superior Court]. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied in full this [date left blank] March 1840. R & W King. Recorded this 30 May 1840. E. Way Clerk.”]
