On September 17, 1838, Susan S. Quarterman, Liberty County, gifted to Eliza A. Phelps, also of Liberty County, “the Infant Child of my Negro Woman Jenny named Lindy Louisa. To Have & To Hold the said Infant Child unto her the said Eliza A. Phelps, her heirs & assigns, for ever; to her and their own proper use benefit and behoof, for ever in fee simple…” Witnessed by R.F. Baker, Artemas Baker. Probated by Richard F. Baker before Ezra Stacy, J.I.C.L.C., on March 4, 1839. Recorded on March 21, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk.
