On July 23, 1838, Abial Winn, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $2935 to Ralph King, William King and Bayard L. Hand, “partners trading under the name & firm R & W King” of Savannah, “the following slaves namely Charlotte, Tony, George, David, L [left blank after L], Harriet, Aby, Tenah, Penda, Meel [as seen], Like [Luke?], Frank, Nanny & Little York fourteen in number…” Witnessed by A.O. Bacon, E.H. Bacon, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on October 30, 1838, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Savannah 17th March 1840 Rec’d Satisfaction in full for within mortgage. W. King for R & W King & Co. Witness C.C. Jones. Recorded this first April 1840. E. Way Clerk.”]
