On May 1, 1838, Josiah S. Law, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $509.84 to the Commissioners of Sunbury Academy, identified as Rev. Wm. [William] McWhir, Joseph Jones, Oliver Stevens, and Joseph E. Maxwell, “two negro men named Peter and Sam…” Witnessed by Louisa E. Bacon, E.H. Bacon, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on June 8, 1838, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied. Joseph E. Maxwell, Secry Sunbury Academy. March 10th, 1843. Recorded this 1st May 1843. E. Way Clerk.”]
