On 4 December 1845, Anna Virginia Doughtery [alt: Doughtry, Daughtry] of Liberty County named Bartholomew A. Busby as her trustee as she prepared for marriage to Edward S. Kempton of Savannah, and transferred into Busby’s keeping her share in the estate of the late Mary Austin, “consisting of the following negro slaves as the part portion and share of the said Ann Virginia viz. Cuffee, Anthony, Sam, young Cuffee, Titus, Jacob, Paro [or Pars], Sally, Hetty, Bellah, Edy, Emeline, Boston, Myrah, Peggy, Sylvia, Nancy, Prince, Hannah, Israel, Cloe [alt: Chloe], Pompy [alt: Pompey], Henry and Amy,” as well as any future property she might own. Witnessed by E.J. Delegal and W.G. Thomson of Liberty County.
[NOTE: In Mrs. Mary Austin’s 1835 will, she named as an heir Ann Virginia, daughter of William Dottery [as in text], and left to her “the following twenty one negroes, viz. Old Cuffy, Myra, Anthony, Sam, Emeline, Little Cuffy, Titus, Jacob, ?Pars? [or Pam or Paro], Peggy, Sylvia, Hannah, Chloe, Ann, Pompey, Sally, Hetty, Bella, Edy, Nancy & Prince.” She also left “the said property and the said Ann Virginia, to the care and protection of my nephew B.A. Busby.” She specified that her estate was not to be divided until after the death of her sister Frances Valley, who was to have the use of all her property during her life.
