Enslaved Persons Named: Sam

On May 18, 1846, David B.M. Sheppard and Mary J. Martin Sheppard sold to Dominick O. Byrne of Savannah for $600 “a certain negro man slave named Sam,” who was part of the estate belonging to Mary J. Martin when she married Sheppard. The sale took place via her trustees, Richard F. Baker, W.G. Martin, and Simon A. Fraser, per the May 11, 1843, marriage contract between Sheppard and Martin. Witnessed by Jacob Thiess, J.S. Bradwell. Reocrded on May 23, 1846, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
