On February 15, 1840, Ezra Stacy and W.E.W. Quarterman used as collateral on a promissory note of $1300 to Thomas W. Fleming “the following named slaves with the issue of the females to wit Fortune and Sam.” Witnessed by Jno. B. Mallard, Saml [Samuel] Spencer, J.I.C. Recorded on April 13, 1846, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied in full 8th November 1847 Thos. W. Fleming. Recorded 9 Novr 1847. J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.”]
