Enslaved Persons Named: Tenor, Simon, Nanny, Charity, Peter, Catherine

On January 24, 1846, Mary Johnson, Liberty County, gifted to her daughter Hester A. Latham, wife of George W. Latham, and her children, of Nassau County in Florida, “the following negro Tenor a negro woman twenty eight years of age, black complexion, Simon a negro man twenty years of age, Nanny a negro woman sixteen years of age, Charity a negro girl eight of age, Peter a boy seven years of age, Catherine a girl five years of age all black complexion…” Witnessed by Wm. [William] M. Boggs, Z.L. Boggs (who also probated it on February 16, 1846, before J.S. Bradwell, Clerk, Superior Court). [NOTE: Mary Johnson signed by mark, often indicating illiteracy.]

On January 24, 1846, George W. Latham, of Nassau County, Florida, sold to Mary Johnson for $2000 “the following property to wit, Simon a negro man twenty years of age complexion black, Tenor a woman twenty eight years old, complexion black, Nanny a negro woman sixteen years old, complexion black,  Charity a girl eight years old, complexion black, Peter a boy seven years old complexion black, Catherine a girl five years old complexion black.” Witnessed by Wm. Boggs, Z. L. Boggs. Recorded on February 17, 1846, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
