On March 23, 1844, David A. Miller, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $400 to Mrs. Mary E. Parsons of Hartford, Connecticut and formerly of Georgia, “the following negro slaves viz. Harriet and her four children, Sarah, George, Betty and her infant not named…” Witnessed by Thos. [Thomas] W. Norman, G.W. Dunham, J.I.C. Recorded on April 15, 1844, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “I do transfer the within mortgage to G.W. Walthour having paid it to Mrs. Parsons by paying her note due G.W. Walthour Mar. 31st 1854. G.W. Walthour. Satisfied in full April 4th 1856 Geo W. Walthour. Entered this 22d April 1856. S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.”]
