Enslaved Persons Named: Billy, Hannah, Sally, Dinah, Judy, Lucinda, Jack, Grace, Rose, Phoebe, Clarinda, Lissy, Dianna, Kate

On February 6, 1844, Raymond Cay, Liberty County, purchased from W.P. McConnell, through public sale after a foreclosure, for $4300 “the following negro slaves…Billy Hannah Sally Dinah Indy Lucinda Jack Grace Rose Phoebe Clarinda Lissy Dianna & Kate.” Liberty County Sheriff E. [Enoch] Daniel had executed the foreclosure of a “mortgage deed in favor of G.W. Walthour & against W.P. McConnell, after due & legal notice being given in terms of the law in such cases made & provided,” and the enslaved people were “exposed to public sale…at the Court House in Hinesville” and Raymond Cay made the highest bid. Witnessed by Thos. W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on February 6, 1844, by E. Way, Clerk.
