On December 5, 1843, R.S. Baker used as collateral on a promissory note of $1000 to George W. Walthour, both of Liberty County, “the following thirteen slaves (viz) Peter, Cloe, Crawford, Maria, Stephen, Ned, Nanny, Louisa, Matilda, Lawrence, Cato, Bob & Mary, the three last being mortgaged to the said Walthour for a previous debt…” Witnessed by R.W. Gould, Gideon B. Dean, George W. Dunham, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on December 21, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied in full. December 30, 1853. Geo. W. Walthour. Entered this 15th July 1854. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
