On June 1, 1843, Wm. [William] G. Thomson used as collateral on a promissory note of $633.20 to Henry M. Stevens, both of Liberty County, “the following named Negrl Slaves to wit, January Smart Scipio Titus Dick Jim Prime [or Prince] & Scipio the younger.” Witnessed by B.B. King, C.S. Mallard, E.J. Delegal. Recorded on July 10, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied in Full H.M. Stevens June 1st 1853. Recorded this 18th July 1853. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
