On June 8, 1843, Joseph E. Maxwell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1000 to George W. Anderson & Brother, Chatham County, “the following family of negro slaves to wit Sanche [alt: Sancho] about thirty years of age Patty about twenty seven years of age Flora about fifteen years of age Ben about nine years old Peter about seven years old Joe about five years old & Floyd about three years of age…” Witnessed by Tristran Veretitle [?] Notary Public [of Chatham County]. Recorded on June 13, 1843, by E. Way, [Liberty County Superior Court] Clerk.
