Marriage Contract (Stevens/LeConte)

On June 8, 1843, Josiah P. Stevens and Ann L. LeConte, both of Liberty County, entered into a marriage contract that transferred “as portion of her property” to trustees John LeConte and Joseph LeConte, with this property specified as “all the negro slaves (with the future issue and increase of the females) and all the lands with the improvements thereon which the said Ann inherits from her father the late Louis LeConte Esqr, deceased (her portion of which not yet been alotted her).” After their marriage, Josiah and Ann were to take “the possession labour & hire of all the above conveyed property for their joint support & maintenance.” Inheritance conditions were set. Witnessed by N. Varnedoe, William Jones. Recorded on August 1, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk.
