Winkler, Chatham County, “the following named negro slaves Jack, Lavener [possible alternatives Lavender, Lavinie], Sandy, Tom, Lucy, Daphney [alt: Daphny], Flander, Christmas, Nelly, Cuffy, Liddy, Fanning, Mary, Louis, Betty, Georgian [alt: Georgia Ann], Gabe, Rose, Lisbon, Ben, Johnny, Rachel, Mingo, Nanny, May, Cealy [alt: Celie, Celia], Jacob, Rachel, Dianna, Ben, Casander [alt: Cassandra], Cornelius, Walley, Venus, Jenney [alt: Jenny], Jonas, Jane, Susannah, June, Lucy, Sophey [alt: Sophy], Isaac, little Sophey, Binah, Simon, Sarah, Louisa, Judy & child, Phoeby [alt: Pheobe] & child & Ned.” Witnessed by Levi S. On 31 January 1844, Z.M. Winkler brought Wilkins to court due to default on this mortgage. It was recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 3, 1844. 

[NOTE: Updated on 12-14-2022 to add the record from Liberty County Superior Court proceedings. The name rendered above as “Christmas” was clearly Christmas, not Christina as originally transcribed, and has been amended.
