On April 25, 1853, David A. Miller used as collateral on a promissory note of $740.19 to Mrs. Mary E. Parsons “the following negro slaves viz Jennet [alt: Jennett], Sary and her three children Jack [other two names illegible]. Witnessed by John Girardeau, H.F. Horne J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on August 25, 1853, by C.C. Andrews, D.C.S.C.L.C. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “For value received I do hereby transfer all my right title & interest of the within mortgage & note unto Wm. J. Way his heirs and assigns for his & their only benefit & behoof forever. March 1, 1855. G.W. Walthour. Trus. M.E. Parsons. Satisfied in full this 7 April 1856. Wm. J. Way. Entered this 22d April 1856. S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.”]
