On July 11, 1853, James N. Jones, guardian of the minor Edwin W. Jones, acknowledged receipt from Mrs. E.S.L. Jones, executrix of Joseph Jones’ estate, property including “twenty one negro Slaves to wit Bacchus [alt: Bachus], L.V. Sam, Sylvia, Cuffee, Cealia [alt: Celia], Rose, little Cuffee, little Sylvia, Jane, Frank, Bess, Friday, Billy, Elizabeth, Molly, Jack, July, Amartia [alt: Amaretta or Amaritta] and Luke per inventory dated Feby 7, 1852, also Sary & Tirah per will of Joseph Jones,” as well as bank stock and land (1/2 of Retreat Plantation, 1/6 of Laurel View Plantation, 1/11 of Cherry Hill Plantation, and a house & lot in Sunbury) and other sundry property. The full value of the property received was $10602.60, “being the full proportion of the said Minor E.W. Jones” from the estate. He also acknowledged the requirement to use any of this property as needed to pay debts of Jones’ estate. Witnessed by T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on July 12, 1853, by [Liberty County Superior Court] Clerk S.A. Fraser.
