Estate Settlement (Joseph Jones)

Enslaved Persons Named: Sally, Josephene [alt: Josephine], Patsey, Sam, Anthony, Moll, Charles, Rakey, Affee, Charrissa [alt: Clarissa], Amie [alt: Amy], Fortune, Lucy, William, Keziah, Pulaski, Amy

On July 11, 1853, Andrew M. Jones acknowledged receipt from his mother E.S.L. Jones, executrix of his father Joseph Jones’ estate, property including “seventeen negroes viz Sally, Josephene [alt: Josephine], Patsey, Sam, Anthony, Moll, Charles, Rakey, Affee, Charrissa [alt: Clarissa], Amie [alt: Amy], Fortune, Lucy, William, Keziah, Pulaski and Amy “per will,” as well as $666.18 in cash, 9 1/6 shares of stock in the Central Road Road and Banking Company of Georgia, and 7 2/3 shares of stock in the Bank of the State of Georgia. The entire property was valued at $10,299.50. He also received 1/6 of the Laurel View Plantation, 1/7 11 of Cherry Hill Plantation, and “house and lot in Sunbury.”  Andrew M. Jones and James N. Jones also acknowledged the requirement on them to use any of this property as needed to pay debts of their father’s estate. Witnessed by T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on July 11, 1853, by S.A. Fraser [Liberty County Superior Court] Clerk.
