On April 6, 1853, Sarah Jane Way used as collateral on a promissory note of $975 to Joseph Way “the folowing four negro Slaves together with the issue of the females to wit Dinah a woman about forty five years of age Sarah a girl about fifteen, Isaiah a boy about thirteen and Henry a boy about thirteen.” Witnessed by C. Hines, Wm. N. Way, Wm. F. Way. Recorded on April 9, 1853. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Settled up in full to date this 21st Sept 1855. Joseph Way. Entered this 25th Sept 1855. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
