On March 1, 1852, Joseph Way and Charlton Hines entered into a contract in which Way executed a promissory note of $250 to John W. Farmer and conveyed as collateral to Charlton Hines “the following property to wit, Mily [alt: Miley] a woman about twenty two years of age and Cuffy [alt: Cuffee] a boy about twelve years of age.” Witnessed by T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on July 9, 1852.
