On December 23, 1850, Roswell King, Liberty County, sold for $1000 to Mary Ashmore, Liberty County, “a negro woman Slave named Venus, her child named Betsey and her child Will…” Signed by King at “Litchfield Liberty County.” Witnessed by R.B. Carter [signed by mark] and Jas. S. Ashmore. Probated by Richard Carter [signed by mark] on June 9, 1851. Recorded on August 25, 1851, by J.S. Bradwell, Clk.
