On July 12, 1849, Benjamin Lane, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $134.62 to the executors of John Lambert’s estate (Thomas Mallard, Ezra Stacy, W.Q. Baker, William Jones & John B. Mallard) “the following named negro slaves, with the issue of the females, viz. Nancy & her child Samuel.” Witnessed by J.C. Wilkins, Notary P., W.P. Brown Jr. Recorded on August 15, 1849, by John E. Fraser, D.C.L.C.
