On May 8, 1849, John Coleman, William J. Coleman and John Coleman, attorneys for Thos. [Thomas] B. Coleman, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $700 to Smith S. Hart, Bryan County, “the following named slaves viz Sam, Henry, & Lucy.” Witnessed by Wm. [William] S. Norman, John S. Andrews. Recorded on July 11 1849, by John E. Fraser, D.C.L.C.  [NOTE: Written on the deed was “Satisfaction 25 Feby 1850. S.S. Hart. By W.S. Norman Atty at Law. Recorded 25 Feby 1850. J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.”]
