Enslaved Persons Named: Venus, Cynthia, Andrew, Charles, Jenny, William, Israel, Van Buren, Wiltshire, Fancy, Washington, Simon, Louisa, David, Francis, Old Lewis

On February 24, 1847, James N. Jones acknowledged receipt from his mother E.S.L. Jones, executrix of his father Joseph Jones’ estate, “the following amount in money, bank stock, land together with sixteen negro slaves to wit Venus, Cynthia, Andrew, Charles, Jenny, William, Israel, Van Buren, Wiltshire, Fancy, Washington, Simon, Louisa, David, Francis, and Old Lewis amounting according to appraisement to the sum of seven thousand six hundred & ninety dollars & forty six cents, also one half of the plantation known as the Retreat…” Recorded on May 25, 1849, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
