On March 1, 1849, William C. Stevens, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1500 to George W. Walthour of Liberty County, in trust for Mary E. Parsons, a thousand-acre property known as Mount Good Hope, bounded on the north by Samuel Mallard’s and Dr. King’s land, east by Col. William Maxwell’s land, south by North Newport River, and west by B.A. Busby’s land “together with the following personal property to wit Jim, Abby, [3-letter name], James, Sally, Rose, John and George.” Witnessed by Jos. L. Stevens, Geo. W. Dunham, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on March 28, 1849, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on the deed was “For value received I transfer all my right title & interest of the mortgage & note unto Wm. [William] J. Way his heirs and assigns for his and their own benefit & behoof forever. Geo. W. Walthour, Trus. M.E. Parsons. March 1st 1855. Satisfied this 1st March 1856. Wm. J. Way. Entered this 24th March 1856. S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.”]
