On March 3, 1849, James S. Bradwell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $255 to Thomas J. Sheppard, McIntosh County, “the following negro slaves to wit Stepney and his wife Tenah and Will the latter a boy about sixteen years of age.” Witnessed by Jacob Thiess, C. Hine J.I.C. Recorded on March 3, 1849, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on the deed was “Satisfied in full Thos. J. Shepard. May 15th 1850, Attest Jno. A. Hendry, J.I.C.L.C.”]
